My name is Diya Cham, and I'm the founder of ElderGuards, an initiative to help seniors stay safe online. This project was born from my passion for connecting with others, my commitment to community service, and my belief that everyone deserves to feel confident navigating the digital world. This project was born from a mix of personal experience, passion for service, and a deep belief that everyone - regardless of age - deserves to feel empowered in our digital world. My own journey into cybersecurity awareness began when I fell for a phishing scam. That moment made me realize how easy it is to be misled online, even when you think you're being careful. What truly drove me to act, though, was my grandfather. His fear of online scams kept him from using digital tools like online banking - things that could have made his life easier. I realized he wasn't alone. So many older adults avoid technology out of fear or unknowingly put themselves at risk due to a lack of digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness. As part of my Girl Scout Gold Award, I created ElderGuards to bridge that gap - to make cybersecurity simple, approachable, and empowering for seniors. With the help of a small but passionate team, we've built workshops, easy-to-follow guides, and accessible resources tailored to older adults. Our mission is to break down the fear and confusion surrounding online safety and help seniors feel informed, protected, and in control of their digital lives. Staying safe online shouldn't be intimidating. With the right support, anyone can learn - and we're here to make sure of that.
